Mission accomplished: Here's how to return home feeling relaxed after your adventure on the Aare
You’ve gotten out of the boat in Bern-Eichholz, the sun is shining, and you’ve returned your gear. But what’s next? The trip back from Bern to Uttigen is incredibly easy. Here’s your guide to wrapping up your day on the Aare in style.
One of the most frequently asked questions is about logistics after the Aareböötle. Since our base in Uttigen is located right next to the train station, the return trip by train is incredibly convenient.
1. Material: Beech wood
Your tour on our boats officially ends at Eichholz in Bern.
Why get off here? This is where our return station is located. Since space at Marzili is extremely limited and the area is bustling with swimmers and private boats, getting off at Eichholz is the most relaxed option for our guests.
Return: Our team will be waiting for you at the sunbathing area or at the parking lot behind it. You’ll return your boat, paddle, and life jacket, and then you’ll be all set for the rest of the afternoon. If we aren’t there, you’ve already been told where to leave the equipment so we can pick it up later.
2. The Way Back to Bern Station: Three Routes to the Destination
From Eichholz, you have three great options for getting to Bern Central Station (Bern HB):
The "Berner Weg" (Swimming): The coolest way back! Pack your dry clothes in the dry bag (which you can buy when you book or at the shop on-site), jump back into the river, and let the current carry you about 10 minutes to Marzili. From there, it’s a leisurely 10- to 15-minute walk up to the Federal Palace and the train station.
The more leisurely option (tram): A short walk (about 10 minutes) will take you to the Wabern, Sandrain stop. From there, Line 9 will take you directly to the Bern train station in about 10 minutes.
The active option (walk): If you’d rather stay dry, you can take a 25-minute walk along the riverbank toward the city center.
3. Take the S1 back to Uttigen
Once you arrive at the Bern train station, the rest is a piece of cake:
Directions: Take the S1 (toward Thun).
The trip takes just 20 minutes to get back to Uttigen.
Right by your car: Since our base and the parking lots are located right next to the Uttigen train station, you can get back to your car right away.
4. Food & Drinks: Serini Restaurant
Before you leave Bern, be sure to stop by Serini Restaurant, located right by the exit.
What we offer: Forget fast food—here you’ll find top-notch pizza, fresh daily specials, and delicious seasonal dishes. It’s the perfect place to watch the boats go by with a cold drink and reflect on your day.

Drop-off point: Eichholz Campground (return equipment).
Directions: Take tram 9, walk, or swim (with a dry bag!) to Bern Central Station.
Train: Take the S1 toward Thun to the Uttigen station.
