FAQ - Everything you need to know about Aareböötle Thun-Bern

  • Why do you start in Uttigen? Uttigen is the safest and most strategically advantageous starting point for the Aare river trip to Bern. Since we start below the Uttigen threshold (wave), our guests avoid the most dangerous part of the river. In addition, our location at Uttigen train station was the birthplace of professional river tubing in Europe in 2007.

Uttigen is only 5 minutes away from Thun and offers many advantages:

    • Directly at the station on the Bern-Thun line

    • 70 inexpensive SBB parking spaces directly on site (CHF 5/day)

    • Access below the wave (ideal for families)

    • Less crowds than Thun = less waiting time

    • Rental station located directly at the train station

    • Store & check-in directly at the station

  • The tour starts at our base right at Uttigen train station and ends safely after about 20 km at Camping Eichholz in Bern. This route is considered the classic Aareböötle tour and has been professionally managed by us for 18 years.

Start: Uttigen train station (right next to the shop)
    Destination: Camping Eichholz, Bern
Both locations are easily accessible by train.

How long does the trip take?
Approx. 2.5 hours on the water (depending on the water level) - longer with breaks.

How do I get back to Uttigen?
The best way is by train from Bern (S1 line, 20 minutes)

  • The easiest way to get here is by train. Our base is located right in Uttigen station. You get off the train, walk a few steps, and you're right at our base. Not only is this stress-free, but it also saves you the hassle of looking for a parking space.

  • Is Aareböötle suitable for children? Yes, but with restrictions. The minimum age is 8 years and swimming ability. Depending on the type of boat, we also give adapted minimum age recommendations, which you will find under the information when booking. Safety first! In case of doubt: Please contact us before booking. If we are unable to take children on the day of the rental for safety reasons, the customer will incur expenses.

  • Is the tour safe? Yes, if you can swim and follow our instructions. You will receive from us:

    • Life jackets

    • Splash-proof transport bag

    • Instruction on site

    • Route map

What about alcohol? Not forbidden. But: safety first. People heavily under the influence of alcohol are not allowed on the tour.

  • What if the weather is bad? You can rebook free of charge up to 48 hours in advance or cancel for a fee. In the event of heavy thunderstorms, storms or flooding, we will cancel on our own initiative.

Can I change my booking? You can change your booking once free of charge up to 48 hours in advance. After that, you are fully committed to the booked date and full payment is due, even if you don't show up.

You can find our complete GTC here.

  • Can my dog come on the boat? Unfortunately not. Animals are not allowed on board (exception: trained assistance dogs on request). Too many risks for people and animals.

  • No, don't worry! It's only about 100 meters from our base at Uttigen train station to the river. To save you having to carry heavy loads, we provide free transport trolleys for the journey to the water. This means you can relax and enjoy the trip to the entry point below the Uttigen weir.

  • Absolutely not. That's one of our biggest advantages: while in Thun-Schwäbis you often have to wait up to two hours on hot days because hundreds of people share a tiny entry point, with us you can enjoy pure relaxation. Thanks to our many years of experience (since 2007) and our exclusive access, we have perfected the process. With us, there is no long wait on the shore. You will receive your equipment and a quick briefing and can get straight onto the Aare without the typical "entry congestion" and without any stress.
